Hydraulic 4WD on T650 |

Volvo BM 650 was equipped with hydraulic 4WD at Kuiken in Holland
Mr Danny Vermue writes that his father bought a new T650 made in 1975 from the Dutch
seller Kuiken. When a prototype with a hydraulic 4WD system on T650 was presented at a
Dutch agricultural show Mr Vermue ordered the equimpent for his own 650.
In the summer of 1976 the 2WD - 650 was rebuilt and got the hydraulic driven front axle by
Kuiken. It took a long time and cost some money but in the autumn of 1976 the tractor was
working in the field. The 4WD helps and Danny Vermue writes that the system works well
between 5-16 km/h, after that it disconnects automatically. Under 5 km/h the wheel
engines do not get the needed flow to provide power.
The pump was made by Bosch and the wheel engines came from the Volvo company.
Thanks to Danny Vermue for the report!

T700 with HFWD
Also the T700 model was equipped with H4WD and some of them came to Sweden to be a part of
the model list for 1977. In 1976 commercial was made about it. The system was expensive
and in Sweden they believed the system to be too complicated and not powerful enough to be
continued for the market. Some sources say that 15 units was made, other say 30.
In that time T650 and T700 was only sold with 2WD, some attempts to make it with
mechanical 4WD had been made but it didn't continue for some reason. Between 1970-1982 the
Dutch made HFWD (in 1975-1976) was the only option to get 4WD for the 650/700 models.
A few examples of the 700 with H4WD still work in Holland and Sweden.
In Sweden only the T700 model got H4WD. Congratulations to those who have one. It is a
really rare tractor, but maybe not a classic yet?

One of only two T814 in Spain |

©Photos by Jordi Vicens Solà

Only two T814 was sold before the
Spanish leader Franco closed the possibility to import foreign tractors to Spain in the
1970's.
The first owner of this recently found 814 (made in 1969) used the tractor for
construction work only and the Swedish made puller was seen as modern and powerful for the
job.
Now it's up for a rennovation and surely it will be a spectacular object at future tractor
meets as one of only two 814:s in Spain.
Thanks to Jordi Vicens Solà for this report |
